I. Purposes

art. 1   Library collection consists of: electronic books, electronic databases for research, reference works (encyclopedias, dictionaries, rare books, etc..) books, pamphlets, videotapes, DVDs, CDs, periodicals, essays, dissertations, theses and specific softwares.

II. Opening Hours

art. 2   The hours of operation are: Monday to Friday, 8am to 10pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 2pm.

III. Local Consultation

art. 3   The Library is open to students, faculty and staff for research in the reading room.

art. 4   All collection can be required for consultation, respecting the limit of 5 (five) volumes at a time, upon presentation of identification cards.

art. 5   The reading material should be returned by the own user, who must wait for the librarian ´s checking and liberation.

art. 6   The user who leaves the library with reference works without authorization loses definitely the right to use the Library for any purpose.

IV. Registration

art. 7   Registration for borrowing books is free to students, faculty and staff.

art. 8   Loans and consultations may be made only after enrollment.

art. 9   The user must notify the Library any changes of address and academic life.

V. Do Acesso à Biblioteca

art. 10   Entrance with handbags, briefcases, bags, backpacks or similar objects is not allowed.

VI. Loans

art. 11   Registered users can take up to 3 (three) volumes at a time, since it is not of the same title, for a period of 07 (seven) days for undergraduates and 14 (fourteen) days to graduates.

a)   The title can be renewed as long as there is no other reservation for the same book.
b)   The term of the loan and the number of volumes can be altered by librarians, taking into account the period in which they were requested and the number of copies available.
c)   Alumni can take up to 02 (two) volumes at a time, since they are members of Alumni and Students Association.
d)   Professors can take up to 07 (seven) volumes at a time, for a period of 15 (fifteen) days.

art. 12   Book loans can be made until 09:50pm from Mondays to Fridays and Saturdays until 01:50pm.

art. 13   Materials not available for loans:

a)   Reference works (encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc.);
b)   Essays;
c)   Journals;
d)   Titles that have been reserved by professors.

art. 14   At the discretion of the chief Librarian, the publications mentioned in the previous article can be exceptionally borrowed.

art. 15   It is forbidden to use Library services on behalf of another person.

art. 16   The lender is responsible for the title. If this person lends the title to another user, s/he will remain accountable to the Library.

VII. Penalties

Art. 17   The lender is responsible for the titles in his/her possession and must return them on time.

art. 18   Failure to return the titles on time implies suspension equivalent to double the days in arrears by volume and days elapsed, stipulated by the Library.

a)   The user suspended by the Library will be prohibited to use the service.
b)   After exhausting the resources for recovery of overdue the titles, the Library will communicate the name of the defaulter to the School Board for appropriate action.

art. 19   The days of school holidays are considered for the delay in returning the titles.

art. 20   In case of loss or damage, the user shall necessarily indemnify the Library through the replacement of the title.

art. 21   In case of robbery or theft of material under the responsibility of the user, police reports (BO) will not be accepted for the purpose of waiving the replacement of library materials.

art. 22   If the title is sold out, the user must replace with another title in the interest of the Library and of equal value.

art. 23   The Library runs periodical and comprehensive review of the loans, thus avoiding that users are suspended.

art. 24   Students who take books or journals that are for exclusive use in the Library will be warned and suspended for twice the number of days of delay, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. In case of delays of more than 20 (twenty) days, the suspension shall be eighty (80) days.

VIII. Behavior in the Library

art. 25   In the Library, users must observe the following standards:

a)   Respect the librarians, accepting their guidance as to existing standards;
b)   Observe the hours of operation;
c)   Keep silent in the reading room;
d)   Speak low, if necessary;
e)   Do not smoke, eat or drink;
f)    Turn off the cell phone.

art. 26   Loans can be made from Monday to Friday until 09:30pm and on Saturdays until 01:30pm.

art. 27   Cases not mentioned in this Regulation, shall be decided by the Chief Librarian.

IX. Renewal of Books

art. 28   Renewal of books can be made by e-mail, phone or in the Library.

art. 29   If there is reservation of the book, the student is unable to do the renewal.

X. Interlibrary Loans (EEB)

art. 30   Registered users can only do Interlibrary Loan when the title is not available in the Library´s collection.

art. 31   The loan betwen libraries is restricted to books and periodicals, excluding titles of the special collection, audiovisual material, internal consultation and reference.

art. 32   The renewal request must be made by the student directly in the Library, considering:

a)   it is within the loan period;
b)   there is no reservation for the title;

art. 33   The delay in returning the titles will result in the suspension of the partner institution, twice as long the period of delay.

XI. Loans among FIA Educational Units (EEU)

art. 34   The request for books and other materials should be made by e-mail to, with all the information about the material, student, course, name of the assistant and of the educational unit.

art. 35   The students of all FIA Educational Units must respect the list of titles reservation.

art. 36   The deadline for the arrival of requested materials in our Library is up to 2 (two) working days, and the deadline for the arrival of the materials requested by Interlibrary Loan (EEB) is up to 5 working days.

XII. Lockers

art. 37  The use of lockers is permitted only and exclusively while the user remains in the Library.

art. 38   The key loss or retention will result in a fine of R$ 20.00 (twenty reais). The payment is made in the Library loan desk.

art. 39   The Library is not responsible for any material left in lockers.
